Individual Volunteers

All types of volunteers are welcome – from students to senior citizens. Individuals have the opportunity to create a large impact on our community and the overall well-being of our residents. Available opportunities are listed below.

Volunteer Groups and Entertainment

We are open to community groups, student organizations; and entertainers to share their talents and interests with our residents. Groups may structure their own event for our elders, or they may assist staff in facilitating an already planned event.

Internships and Job Shadows

Internships and job shadows are invaluable professional experiences where you can gain the confidence and skills for your future career. Students are encouraged to plan ahead for their internships and know the requirements set by their school. Available opportunities are listed below.

VOICE Program

VOICE is a 3-stage program. Stage 1 will provide a volunteer learning environment in elder healthcare within Burcham Hills. Job shadow for up to 12 weeks with skilled professionals. Participants will be given real-life experience which allow them to explore multiple career options. For example, options for job shadowing may include Nursing, Wellness, Recreation Therapy, CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), Dietary Services, Environmental Maintenance, Administration, Social Services, Information Technology, Medical Records, Accounting and Billing, Marketing and various Rehabilitation Therapy disciplines.

After completing the job shadow stage, participants may apply for a 3-month work experience (stage 2). Paid work experiences are based on meeting position qualification requirements and position availability. Stage 2 participants are required to meet job performance expectations and must abide by Burcham Hills policies and procedures.

Participants who successfully fulfill the requirements of stage 2 are eligible to apply for a scholarship toward education or training in an elder healthcare field with continued employment in a paid position at Burcham Hills.
